Adopt A Ducky!
The Vancouver Lions Club Duck Derby is fund–raising event that benefits the Club's sight and vision programs through the the Club's foundation, the Vancouver Lions Foundation.
You can participate in the Duck Derby by adopting a Ducky— $5.00 for a single Ducky, $20.00 for a five–Ducky “Quack Pack”, $100.00 for a whole “Flock” of 25 Duckies!
For each Ducky you sponsor you receive a ticket with a number that corresponds to another ticket that will be attached to a highly trained, race ready, rubber Ducky.
On race day, the adopted Duckies (only Duckies that have a sponsor are permitted to race!) will be released into one of our local streams (which will be determined a little closer to race day— stay tuned) at the same time, and will race with the current for a finish line a few hundred yards downstream.
The more Duckies you adopt the greater the chance you will win a prize. There is no limit to the number of Duckies you can adopt.
Ducky adoption tickets are available from any Vancouver Lion. Or, go high–tech and send an email to the Head Duck and tell her how many Duckies you want to adopt.

Prizes are awarded to the sponsors of the Duckies in the order the Duckies finish the race.
Prizes are donated and the list changes frequently as additional donations are made. The final list of prizes—the order in which the prizes will be distributed to the winning Duckies—will be determined by a Duck Derby Committee prior to the start of the race.
In addition to sponsoring a Ducky, you may donate a prize or donate cash for a prize that the Duck Derby Committee will purchase for the race. Prize sponsors will be posted at the race site and will be included in advertising and pre–race literature. Ducky F.A.Q.s
What time do the ducks race? The festivities begin at 12:00 noon and the ducks begin their race at 1:00 p.m.
How do my ducks get in the water? Prior to the duck race, volunteers place numbered tags on every rubber Ducky that plans to race, all 2,000! Each number corresponds to someone who has adopted a Ducky. On race day, volunteers carry all the ducks to the river and then dump them in at the start of the race!
How will I know if my duck wins? The Vancouver Lions Club will contact you using the information you provided with your Ducky adoption.
Can I adopt a duck for my child? Ducky adoptions must be made in the name of an adult, age 18 or older.
Are they real ducks or rubber ducks? Really?
What happens to all the ducks after the race? Volunteers collect the ducks from the River, give them each a warm bath, crate them up and send them on to the next race.
Once I adopt a duck, do I get to keep it? No, your adopted Ducky will race for your chance to win fabulous prizes. You will not be able to keep the Ducky after the race.
Do I need to be present to win? No, but it's a lot of fun to attend Race Day!
Is there an admission fee for the Duck Derby? No. All activities, entertainment, and give–a–ways are free on Race Day.
How much do ducks cost? Single Ducky: $5.00; Quack Pack (5 ducks for the price of 4): $20.00; Flock of Ducks (get 25 Duckies in the race for the price of 20): $100.00.
Rules
The Vancouver Lions Club Duck Derby is governed by the Vancouver Lions Club Duck Derby Committee, which has established the following rules.
Rubber ducks will be launched into a local river or stream in Clark County, Washington at approximately 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 20, 2016. The race course will be determined by the Committee. If circumstances require the race to be delayed or postponed, it will be rescheduled at a time and place to be determined by the Committee.
All ducks entered in the race will be provided by, and shall remain the property of, the Vancouver Lions Club.
Once the ducks are launched, no members of the public shall have contact with the ducks. No attempts to free or interfere with any duck are permitted unless deemed necessary by a Duck Derby Committee member.
The race course will close 15 minutes after the first duck has crossed the finish line or is caught in the duck trap. Any ducks finishing after that time will not be eligible for prizes.
If natural causes or other restrictions prevent the use of a local river or stream for holding the race, the Committee may institute other means to conduct a race at their sole discretion.
Numbers will be attached to each duck corresponding to a Duck Derby ticket. The person's or organization's name that appears on the official ticket stub matching the number corresponding to the ducks in order of finish will be awarded the prize. Positive identification will be required to claim any prize won.
Entrants must be 18 years or older to win. If the person whose name is on a winning ticket stub is not more than 18 years old, the prize will be awarded to his or her parent or legal guardian.
No purchase is necessary in order to enter or win. However, entrants are encouraged to make a $5.00 donation per ticket.
One free Duck Derby ticket per person may be obtained by filling out a written request on a 3”x5” card with name, address, and phone number and mailed to Vancouver Lions Club, Duck Derby Committee, P.O. Box 441, Vancouver, WA 98666 not later than August 8, 2016.
The Committee shall determine, in its sole discretion, the maximum number of tickets available.
The entry portion of each Duck Derby ticket must be completely filled out and delivered to the Duck Derby Committee by 2:00 P.M. on Friday, August 12, 2016 for a ticket to be eligible to win a prize. Unsold tickets may be available for purchase the day of the race.
The Committee may, in its sole discretion, limit the number of Duck Derby tickets purchased by any individual or organization.
The winning numbers will be available from the Vancouver Lions Club following the race.
The Vancouver Lions Club will maintain a list of prizes and reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to substitute prizes of comparable value.
Race winners need not be present to win. Winners will be notified by telephone. Prizes must be claimed by November 1, 2016.
Each winner has sole responsibility for paying any taxes, assessments and similar fees or charges on any prizes won and must authorize the deduction of such taxes, if any, from the prizes to the extent required by law.
Names and likenesses of prize winners may be used by the Vancouver Lions Club, and its designees, for promotional purposes, without compensation.
Club members, their spouses, and resident family members are eligible to win prizes.
By entering, entrants release the Vancouver Lions Club and its officers, directors, members and staff, and other related persons or entities, from any and all liability with respect to prizes, the race, and race day festivities.
Chances of winning depend on the total number of entries.
The decisions of the Committee as to the order of finish of the Duck Derby race is final.
The Committee shall be the final arbiter of the Duck Derby Rules and the Duck Derby Race
All decisions and interpretations of these Rules and Regulations will be made by the Committee and its judgment is final.
Any provision contained in these Rules which is in conflict with any applicable law, ordinance or regulation shall be deemed omitted and the remainder of the Rules shall remain in full force and effect.
